Who We Are

WELCOME

Building Remarkable Communities, Inc. (BRC) is an all-volunteer Florida not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded by the Deb Cheslow Achievement Group to respond to an escalation in domestic and family violence in our local communities. Today, BRC is supported with financial and in-kind donations from community agencies, local organizations, and many individuals. These donations go right back out to our partners in the form of educational programs, victim assistance funds, and services set to address immediate needs.

MISSION

The mission of Building Remarkable Communities is to work with Volusia County organizations to help BREAK THE CYCLE of domestic and family violence through education, advocacy, and direct victim support.

BREAKING THE CYCLE OF DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT

There are any number of agencies and social services who provide for basic needs for survivors of domestic and family violence. We work with these agencies to implement programs that empower survivors to rise above their circumstances and seek new possibilities for their lives. We are interested in  changing domestic and family violence at its core, by changing mindsets so that today’s children of domestic and family violence will not grow up to be the next generation of victims and perpetrators.

AN OWL LOGO?

In the United States, the owl is recognized as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. It is our hope that one mind at a time, both individually and as a community, we come to recognize that domestic and family violence is not acceptable behavior and partner to create a more nurturing and effective model.

Major Supporters

BRC would not and could not exist without the support of the community and its willingness to help BREAK THE CYCLE. In addition to the major sponsors listed below, there are hundreds of individuals who have shown their support by giving time, money and goods over the years. This is the heart of BRC and we cannot thank them enough! We are particularly indebted to the following:

Deb Cheslow and the Deb Cheslow Achievement Group. As the founders of Building Remarkable Communities, they have been instrumental in our success. And their support continues to this day.

The Remarkable River Racing series of annual races is BRC’s oldest major fundraising effort and includes a 5K in spring, a 5k & 10K in summer and a 5K & 15K in early fall. See RemarkableRiverRun.com for a list of sponsors, to sign up, or for more information.

The Mid-Florida Jeep Club has awarded BRC generous funding from their 2016 and 2017 annual Jeep Beach Event in Daytona. We owe them a deep debt of gratitude. The “Plan B” funds donated to our local police departments have literally saved lives. In return, many police and victim advocates volunteered to help staff the BRC Charity Table at the 2017 Daytona Speedway Jeep Beach event. What a wonderful example of how BRC partners become BRC volunteers.   For more information on how to get involved, contact BRC at (386) 308-1804.
